Tutor Of Award-Winning Welders
The Beginning
It all started in my back garden, watching sparks fly from my dad’s shed but welding wasn’t the first career that came to mind. I decided to study fashion design at college and when I was awarded "Student of the Year," it gave me the confidence to apply to university. My dyslexia presented its own challenges which likely played a role in changing my career path.
The Foundations
Encouraged by my parents to explore a trade, I decided to pursue a Level 2 qualification in welding and follow in my dad’s footsteps. I advanced to a Level 3 pipe welding qualification with Doosan Babcock, spending several months at their training facility in Tipton. It wasn’t long before it was time to gain site experience, I was delighted to find my first placement at Longannet Power Station in Scotland. The excitement quickly turned to nerves when I realised how far away it was from home and I was about to work on one of the largest coal-fired power stations Europe. The journey was daunting, but I embraced the challenge and learned so much along the way, never looking back! Several years later I joined Pembrokeshire College, where I had the opportunity to expand my skillset; learning the ropes in becoming senior welding lecturer. Here I gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in education.
One of the most rewarding parts of my role was coaching students for welding competitions such as BOC Welder Wales, Inspiring Skills Wales, and WorldSkills UK. I’m proud to say that under my guidance many of my students gained gold, silver, and bronze medals, enabling them flourish within the industry.
The Future
With a solid foundation in high-integrity welder training, I founded Arc Angel Welding and Training to share my passion and enthusiasm for welding. My goal is to bridge the gap between further education and industry and share the love for welding.
